Originally the B1043 ran between the A45 at St Neots and the A14 at Godmanchester. It has since been extended.
At the St Neots end, the B1043 now starts on the A428 southern bypass before heading north into town to join its original route. It then continues north following the River Great Ouse via the Offords to end in its original spot (now on the B1044) in Godmanchester.
The B1043 then teleports to Alconbury (it is left as an exercise to the reader to determine how it got there, although the original route of the A14 through Great and Little Stukeley was numbered B1043 for a time) and becomes the route for non-motorway traffic for both the A1 (via Alconbury South Interchange) and A1307 (via Alconbury East Interchange). It then continues parallel to the A1(M) as far as Norman Cross where it ends – for some reason a local-access road is not needed north of this point. Straight on is the A15.
