For the original B1081 in Felixstowe, see B1081 (Felixstowe).
The B1081 is the former route of the A1 - the Old Great North Road – through Stamford town centre.
The road starts near Tickencote, at a north-facing limited-access GSJ on the A1. It heads southeastwards through Great Casterton, after which there's a brief rural section before we enter the suburbs of Stamford. The road runs along Casterton Road, which has service roads on both sides for some of its distance, before the A606 TOTSOs in from the right and becomes the dominant number in a multiplex as far as the next set of traffic lights, where we meet the A6121.
The B1081 reappears on the far side and follows the narrow Scotgate into the town centre. We go round All Saints' Church and cross Red Lion Square, which may or may not be a shared space. We then head south along St John's Street before bearing left into the S2 St Mary's Street, then right to pass the prominent St Mary's Church to descend St Mary's Hill.
At traffic lights at the bottom of the hill the A1175 comes in from the left and we now multiplex with that road over the River Welland and along High Street St Martin's. The A-road soon turns off to the right (although whether it is the A1175 or the A43 depends on which map you look at) and the B1081 regains its number by continuing ahead. We soon enter open country and we pass a drive to Burghley House. After skirting a golf course a road turns off to the right to become the northbound slip roads to the A1. Our road continues ahead to become the southbound slip roads.
