The B158 is a rural B-road in eastern Hertfordshire.
It starts on the A1000 at Brookmans Park and heads north through Essendon as far as the River Lee. It turns sharply right to follow the river (not particularly closely) and soon afterwards meets the B1455 which links it to the A414.
The River Lee is followed all the way to Hertford. Hertfordshire County Hall is passed, before we cross the A414 at a roundabout and enter the centre of town. In 1922 the B158 ended on Fore Street on the original route of the A414 but the road was extended in 1935. The B158 therefore finally gets round to crossing the River Lee before going through the suburb of Bengeo and then following the River Rib as far as a roundabout on the A602 where it ends.
The 1935 extension of the B158 continued straight on to end on the then-A10 in Thundridge. This section of B158 was declassified at the same time as the old A10.
