The B164 consists of two short unconnected sections of B-road in east London. They were originally part of a through route but the middle section has been upgraded.
In 1922 the B164 started on the A11 next to Maryland station in Stratford and then continued south along Water Lane. Both roads here have been declassified.
The current northern end of the B164 is on the A118 Romford Road. It then heads south along Vicarage Lane as far as the B165 where the northern section ends.
From here, the original line of the B164 was along Church Street North to the west of All Saints' Church, then along Abbey Road and Leywick Street before joining Manor Road. This section is now partly unclassified and partly destroyed: the A1011 has been built to bypass it. However, the section of Manor Road south of Leywick Street which is now A1011 was originally numbered B164.
The B164 now reappears when it crosses the DLR and becomes Stephenson Street. It then continues south via a one-way system (northbound traffic is diverted via Bidder Street) to end on one of the slip road off the A13, thus forcing traffic back to meet the A1011.
