Route
The B2052 is a largely urban B-road on the Isle of Thanet. The route can be basically divided into a west / east urban road, and a north / south run along the east coast of Kent.
It starts on the A28 in Westbrook. It heads east before having to TOTSO right on the edge of Hartsdown Park. Half a mile later it TOTSOs again left and splits for a one-way system at the same time. The two routes combine at a set of traffic lights on the southern edge of Margate, meeting the A254 at a frequently congested traffic-light controlled junction. The B2052 continues along College Road and crosses the A255 at twin mini-roundabouts.
Continuing east, the road reaches a mini-roundabout in Northdown, which marks the end of the B2051, after which it skirts the suburb of Kingsgate before reaching the sea on the cliffs north of Broadstairs. It follows the coast southwards before passing to the seaward side of the North Foreland lighthouse.
The B2052 enters Broadstairs where it runs along the narrow High Street before ending on the A255, where that road has to TOTSO.
History
The section above from Westbrook to Northdown was originally unclassified, except for a short section immediately west of the A254 which was the B2049.
The original western end of the B2052 was on the sea front in Margate, at the eastern end of the A28. It then followed Marine Drive before heading inland along Market Street and then zigzagging to reach Northdown Road, which it followed to Holly Lane and its current route in Northdown. Later on, it was diverted along the coast from Margate to return to Northdown Road along Sweyn Road.
In the 1990s, when many roads on Thanet were renumbered, the western end of the B2052 was moved to Westbrook. The original western section of the B2052 is now partly numbered B2051 and B2055, although most is unclassified.
