In the 1922 Road Lists, the number B2066 was allocated to a short link in the Kent town of Hythe.
The original route of the A259 was along the town's High Street and the B2066 formed a loop off it to the south along the parallel Prospect Road.
As the B2066 formed a natural town-centre relief road the importance of the road was evident from the beginning and it is not surprising it had been upgraded to Class I status by the 1950s. The High Street is now closed to through traffic and the ex-B2066 is part of the A259 mainline.
