The B2170 consists of the major part of Military Road in Sandgate, Kent. It was originally unclassified but had become part of the B2063 by 1932. It gained its present number at some date in the 1980s.
The route starts at a junction with the A259 coast road a short distance from Sandgate Castle and climbs up to Shorncliffe Garrison (home of the 1st Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles). It ends at the point where the southbound B2063 TOTSOs right to become North Road.
