Rather curiously the DfT Card Index road lists from c2002 states that the A3209 has been 'De-principalised - now B3209'. This reference is made in the A road lists, but the B road lists don't mention the B3209 at all. Furthermore, despite this assertion, there is no other evidence that the A3209 was ever downgraded, and indeed it is still identified on maps and signs to this day.
