Route
The B3232 is the direct route between the Devon towns of Great Torrington and Barnstaple.
The road starts at a small roundabout with the B3227 in Great Torrington. It leaves town and heads in a northeasterly direction, passing through open countryside and the locality of Huntshaw Cross. A winding section of road brings it to Alverdiscott.
Continuing north, the B3232 passes through Newton Tracey and then goes through a narrow section at St John's Chapel. This is the reason that lorries are signed to go between Torrington and Barnstaple via the A386 and the A39. The road then goes down a steep twisty hill until it reaches the Roundswell Roundabout on the A39 Barnstaple bypass, where it ends.
History
The route originally continued along Old Torrington Road, ending on the old A39 at the top of Sticklepath Hill where there is now a mini-roundabout. This section was then bypassed as part of the wider Barnstaple Southern Bypass scheme in the late 1980s. A new link road then went from the Roundswell Roundabout as far as the Cedars Hotel Roundabout with two roundabouts creating access to new retail parks, industrial estates and housing estates. This now forms part of the A3125 although was originally built as the B3232.
