The B3255 is described in the 1922 Road Lists as a link at Callington.
In the days when the A390 ran through the centre of Callington, the B3255 acted as a southern bypass to the town, connecting the A390 to itself to avoid the town centre.
The route of the road made it ideal to being upgraded to become the Callington bypass and that is what is now, although the renumbering did not take place until the late 1980s. The former A390 through the centre of town is now unclassified and the ex-B3255 is now the main line of that road.
B3255/B3256 OS Mapping error
On several One Inch Fifth Edition sheets between 1932 and 1934, the B3255 was labelled as B3256. However, the 1936 sheet labels it as B3255, and the contemporary Ten Mile Road Maps all consistently show B3255 for the road. It is therefore most likely to be a mapping error on those sheets.
