For the original B3261 in Bude, see B3261 (West Grove - Bude).
The B3261 follows the pre-bypass main road through the Devon town of Axminster; this was originally the A373 but renumbered A35 in the 1960s.
Turning off the A35 at the western end of the bypass the B3261 immediately crosses the River Yarty before going over a few fields to cross the River Axe and then the railway line from Salisbury to Exeter above Axminster station to enter the town. The A358 then comes in from the right at a roundabout, marking the start of a multiplex through the town centre.
After passing the church the A358 TOTSOs left and the B3261 regains its number by continuing ahead along the narrow Lyme Road. On the eastern side of town, Stony Lane, a spur of the B3261, heads off to the left to rejoin the A358 at a mini-roundabout. Meanwhile the mainline leaves town along Lyme Road. It climbs across the fields to end at a T-junction back on the A35.
