For the original B4063 at Wotton Under Edge in the same county, see B4063 (Wotton under Edge).
The B4063 is the former route of the A40 between Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Starting at traffic lights on the A430 inner ring road, it heads east-by-northeast along London Road, a name which demonstrates its former long-distance importance. Afer passing almost at once beneath the Chepstow to Gloucester railway line the route heads dead-straight towards the inner-city district of Wotton, where, at traffic lights by St Catharine's church, the mainline turns left to cross the A38 at a roundabout just over 200 metres further on. London Road itself, which continues ahead for some 250 metres, is a spur of the B4063, which also reaches the A38 at a smaller roundabout to the southwest.
Now on Cheltenham Road we follow a more winding course through the suburbs before reaching a roundabout on the A40 and A417 northern bypass. We bear slightly left to leave between the two A40 exits, then pass a fire station (on the right) and cross a couple of fields. The speed limit doesn't increase, however, as it's not long before we reach Churchdown. On the far side of the village we pass a golf course and then skirt the northern edge of Gloucestershire Airport.
After crossing two adjacent sets of traffic lights, giving access to Down Hatherley and an industrial estate, we travel a further 800 metres to reach another set of lights at Staverton Bridge, where an unclassified road turns right towards the airport entrance and the B4634 turns left. The latter road, which ends on the A4019 east of Uckington, became the B4063 in 1935, but gained its present number after the B4063 was extended along the ex-A40.
Continuing ahead, soon going under the M5 to reach Golden Valley, which is almost a suburb of Cheltenham though administratively separate. The road remains semi-rural all the way to its conclusion at Arle Court roundabout, back on the A40.
