|Route outline (key)|
The B4338 is a rural B-road in western Cardiganshire.
It starts on the B4337 at Llanybydder, just north of its bridge over the River Teifi. Our road heads west then north to cross the Nant Cledyn then continues to Dre-fach. Here it crosses the A475 via a short multiplex east through the hamlet.
After regaining its number the B4338 continues north to Cwrtnewydd where it zigzags through the village. It climbs to Gorsgoch and then starts heading westwards. In Talgarreg it meets the B4459 and TOTSOs right at the junction.
Until after World War II it was the B4338 that crossed the A487 and headed into New Quay. Indeed, until 1935 the entire route of the B4338 was between the Synod Inn and New Quay; it was extended to Llanybydder in that year. The road continued into the centre of town, ending on the then-B4339 by the harbour.
