The B4542 is a T-shaped road in the Watford suburb of South Oxhey. The road was built along with the construction of the suburb after World War II.
The road starts on the A4125 on the edge of Eastbury opposite the Northwood military HQ. We head east and cross Oxhey Woods before becoming residential once more surprisingly quickly. We follow a winding, hilly route along Prestwick Road and shortly reach a mini-roundabout. From here a spur of the B4542 heads east along Little Oxhey Lane. It crosses a narrow bridge over the West Coast Main Line and then passes a cemetery to end at traffic lights on the A4008.
The mainline of the B4542 continues ahead at the mini-roundabout along the remainder of Prestwick Road. We head more-or-less northwards, parallel to the WCML which is not visible, although we pass the end of the access road to Carpenders Park station. After a mini-roundabout the road wheels left and passes a golf course before becoming suburban once more. It ends at traffic lights back on the A4125.
