The B4557 was a short road running north out of Brecon.
Starting on Bulwark (the then-A40) in the town centre, the road headed north along Free Street and passed under a now dismantled railway line (Heol Gouesnou, the B4601, which has been built on or closely abutting the railway alignment, now crosses this road here on the level). Our road then continued north out of town along Cerrigcochion Road, ending at a junction with the then-A438 immediately west of Bishop's Meadow.
The route was unclassified in 1922 and gained its number at some time in the 1930s. Around 1960 it was upgraded to Class I status, becoming the A4062. However, upon the opening in 1980 of the A40 Brecon bypass it was returned to Class II as the B4602, except for the southernmost section (south of Heol Gouesnou) which is now unclassified.
