The B4572 runs north from Aberystwyth along the nearest road to the coast, although the sea is rarely visible. The road was originally unclassified but gained its number in 1935.
The road starts on the A487 in the Penglais area of town and heads north, losing its centre line before leaving the urban area. The road widens as it passes the crematorium but then narrows again as it descends steeply, with a tight hairpin, into the valley of the Afon Clarach. In the valley bottom we cross the stream and run through Llangorwen before climbing again, along a road that remains largely straight.
After a steep section there is a brief view of the sea between hills to the left, then we continue north across undulating terrain. After a left-right zigzag the road widens then the sea becomes visible on the left. As the Dovey Estuary opens out before us the road narrows again as it descends steeply into Upper Borth. We enter town along Clarach Road and descend to sea level before running along the seafront to a mini-roundabout by the lifeboat station. The road ends here on the B4353.
