The B5405 runs roughly east-west in rural western Staffordshire near the county town of Stafford. It was not part of the original allocation of road numbers in 1922, but was presumably created in the early 1930s.
On the 1932 Ten Mile Road Map, the road is misprinted as B5045; that number has always followed its original route.
Starting on the A519 on the southern side of Woodseaves the B5405 heads east and soon leaves town. It passes through a few scattered settlements such as Knightley and Lawn Head but does give the air of being rural. After passing an industrial estate a few bends take the road into Great Bridgeford. We follow Newport Road to end at a T-junction on the A5013 adjacent to that road's bridge over the West Coast Main Line.
