When the A527 northern bypass of Tunstall, Staffordshire was built, the original route from A50 in the town centre through Longport to the A500 in Porthill was renumbered.
Currently, it is shown on maps as part of the A5271, which is a number that appears very rarely on road signs. However, its original renumbering, as far as some mapmakers were concerned, was B5999, although it is unclear whether the road was actually ever genuinely numbered B5999, or whether this was more a copyright trap or holding number.
