For the current B6023, the old A38 through the same town, see B6023.
In the original 1922 road numbering, the number B6023 was allocated to Outram Street, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
Outram Street was once one of the main shopping streets within the town; however, today a lot of the shops have become fast food outlets or have closed. The road was declassified upon the completion of the Sutton bypass in the late 1980s, when the old main road through the town (numbered A615 then briefly renumbered A38) took on the B6023 number.
The short route begins at the New Cross junction just off the ex-A615 (now the current B6023). The road travels south towards Sutton Town Centre; half way along the road we go over a bridge that the Great Northern Railway used to run under. On the right here was the site of Sutton in Ashfield Town Station, which was closed in 1956. Carrying on along the road we reach our terminus at Portland Square, where it met the B6022. Portland Square has now been pedestrianised and is the site of Europe's largest sundial.
