|Route outline (key)|
The B6135 runs along most of the bypassed route of the former A650 through the Yorkshire town of Drighlington.
The road starts within the City of Leeds just west of Gildersome Interchange and heads northwest. Immediately to the right is the declassified stub that used to connect the A650 to the interchange, including a short section of unclassified D2. Nowadays, this is a quiet walking and cycling route.
The road passes a hotel and a pub restaurant on the left before dropping to 30mph around Adwalton. It's not long before the road reaches central Drighlington at a signalised crossroads with the A58 Whitehall Road. One imagines that, in days gone by, this was a much more significant crossroads.
We continue and reach a short stretch of 40mph limit as the houses disappear on the right-hand side of the road, before the road suddenly becomes rural and gains NSL by the entrance to a golf course on the right. It begins to feel like a proper rural main road, but alas for too short a time as the road enters the City of Bradford while passing Tong Lane on the right. It suddenly ends at a roundabout, as we rejoin the A650.
This road in the reverse direction is useful in the morning peak, as most traffic uses the longer bypass towards Gildersome Interchange, which can lead to significant congestion, as the bypass is also only S2. The way this road rejoins the A650 at the eastern end is seamless and it is never congested. At quieter times, the bypass is usually a bit quicker as it is mostly NSL.
