The B6238 is a link road in Rossendale.
The road starts at a mini-roundabout on the A681 in the centre of Waterfoot, in the built-up upper Irwell valley, and heads north. It soon crosses the Whitewell Brook and begins to climb.
We continue up a narrow valley; as such the road's gradient is never particularly steep (although the hills to either side are). Owing to the width of the valley the B6238 is lined with buildings but the built-up area rarely extends far to either side, if it does at all.
After going through Edgeside the Whitewell Brook is crossed once more and the road goes through Whitwell Bottom before crossing the brook again. The road starts to feel more rural now. Although the urban development continues with hardly a break, the next settlement, Lumb, feels more like a village than a suburb. The brook is crossed another few times and the road feels more rural still. Open country is finally reached, at a point where the valley is fairly shallow.
The B6238 passes to the north of Clough Bottom Reservoir, thereby leaving the valley behind, before continuing over the moors. After reaching a summit, a minor road comes in from the left just before the road ends at a T-junction on the A671 on Deerplay Moor.
