The B702 is a short link road just outside the Edinburgh bypass.
The route starts on the A701, at Straiton Junction which is an elongated dumbbell roundabout hybrid under the A720 City Bypass. The B702 meets the southern end of the junction, which used to be a full roundabout, but has had the neck closed removing the right turn from the A701 into the B702. This means traffic needs to either navigate the whole junction, or cut through the adjacent retail park. All other movements are possible. The route then heads southeast along Loanhead Road past the massive Straiton Retail Park shopping area, which is accessed from the next roundabout. A new housing estate stands opposite, with the Edgefield Relief Road curving around the edge of town to the industrial estates on the northern side. The next junction, for the new houses, is signalised, and then the route follows Hawthorn Gardens and Fountain Place through the suburbs into the town centre, the roadside being lined with a mixture of housing.
In the town centre, it runs along the traffic-calmed Clerk Street which is lined with shops and businesses of a typically suburban nature. It then comes to an end at a signalised crossroads on the slightly re-routed A768 (former B703). The A road used to dogleg here, using the remainder of Clerk Street ahead, but has long since been straightened, and the bypassed section of Clerk Street is now one-way towards the junction.
