This article is about the first classified B705 to the south of Edinburgh.

The original B705 was very short lived, and is today part of the much-extended A701 - namely the nine miles between the Leadburn crossroads and the A72 junction at Blyth Bridge. The A701 had originally run to Peebles along what is now the A703. By 1927 the route had been renumbered as an extension of the A6094, and the B705 number was subsequently reassigned to East Ayrshire. Then, in 1935, the A701 had been re-routed and extended onto its current line, re-shortening the A6094, and hijacking swathes of the B713 and A708 to stretch all the way to Dumfries.
Little of the physical route has changed, mapping evidence seems to suggest only a minor realingment near Rommanobridge to remove a double-bend.
The 1922 MOT Road List defines this route as: Leadburn - Blyth Bridge
