For the original B791 further west in the same county, see B791 (Kilmacolm - Port Glasgow).
The B791 is a short link road through Renfrew, in Scotland's Central Belt. It was originally unclassified but had gained its number by 1932.
The route starts at traffic lights on the dualled A741 Paisley Road to the south of the town centre, and heads east along the residential Cockels Loan. The properties to the left, particularly the block set back behind a green, must feature among some of the more unusual examples of interwar Scottish Domestic Architecture, with some Art Deco features sitting uncomfortably against more traditional design. An area of parkland opens up on the right just before the route reaches a mini-roundabout, where it turns left onto Sandy Road. The old line of the road has been left as a parking area here, although it could have provided land for a couple of extra houses when the small estate was built, which is presumably the reason that the road was realigned. Now heading a little east of north the route runs through Renfrew's suburbs. When the route was first classified Renfrew Airport lay to the right but no trace of this now exists, a vast area of post war housing covering the site. Older council housing is restricted to the left at first, but soon appears on both sides.
A park can then be glimpsed behind the houses on the right, and for a time the road is passing between private housing, before ex council houses take over again. Sandy road continues on its long, straight alignment, and presently passes the small Alexandra Park, ending at a T-junction on the A8 at the far end.
