|Route outline (key)|
Heading east on the A808 Roman Road in Bearsden, a wide entrance on the right marks the start of the B8049, immediately crossing the railway line. Showing the historic importance of this route, we stay on Roman Road, the A808 becoming Roman Drive! This section and some of the route beyond the A81 junction are part of the old Roman Road, the Military Way, which serviced the forts along the Antonine Wall.
After barely 200 m we reach the traffic lights on the A81, where we go straight across, and immediately climb a hill passing between the very expensive-looking houses of Boclair Road as we go. Soon we leave the urban area behind and, while the road is S2, it is narrow and winds through high hedges in places. There is little opportunity to exceed 40-50 for most of the way. Before long, we pass the Tickled Trout pub at the entrance to the garden centre, and drop down to the terminal roundabout at Allander Toll, where we meet the A879 and the A807.
