This article is about the former B898 at Tarbert, Harris.

The B898 number, the highest Class II number in the 8 zone in the 1922 Road Lists, was allocated to the short spur from the main B897 down to the pier in Tarbert on Harris, emphasising the importance of sea travel in the area. However, at some time around or before 1925 the classified roads on the Western Isles were revised, with a lot of new A numbers allocated; prior to this date there were only three Class I roads in the Western Isles, all in north Lewis. This renumbering included the B898 which became the A868.
In more recent years the original road (which served the town and so ran along Main Street) has been bypassed so that the A868 purely serves the ferry to Uig. As such the ex-B898 is now largely unclassified.
The 1922 MOT Road List defines this route as: Branch to Tarbert Pier
