The A986 (former B9054) in Dounby
The original route of the B9054 in 1922 was from the A965 east of Finstown north west to the A967 near Twatt. The road was soon upgraded to Class I status, however, becoming the A986; it seems most likely the upgrade took place in 1933.
Despite being renumbered, the route has not changed, with today's A986 following the same course given to the B9054 in 1922, albeit perhaps wider and with a couple of local realignments of bends.
