The A943 (former B978) in Stonehaven
The B978 was originally allocated to the Slug Road, running between Stonehaven and Banchory.
By 1926, it had been upgraded to the A957, which remains the case today. However, the northern section of the road, which originally ended on the A943, was declassified when the opening of the Durris Bridge allowed A957 traffic to bypass Banchory, thus downgrading the A943; this section of ex-B978 is now quite obviously of lesser quality than the remainder.
