The Ballachulish Roundabout lies on the shores of Loch Leven a couple of miles west of the village of Ballachulish. It was constructed in 1975 to connect the old road (then the A828) with the new Ballachulish Bridge. Upon completion, the A82 was re-routed away from Kinlochleven to cross the bridge, with the A828 being foreshortened to the roundabout.
The roundabout, and part of the new road built to the bridge, were built on the old Ballachulish Branch of the Caledonian / Callander & Oban Railway. The old road to the ferry ran closer to the shore, in front of Craiglinnhe House, and is now just a private drive for the house.
The roundabout catches out many unwary drivers who are knew to the area, as approaching from the east you turn right for Oban, which is actually to the south, while keeping straight on for Fort William to the north! This is easily explained as the A828, Oban Road passes under the bridge which the A82 Fort road crosses.
