Bankton Junction is a junction on the A1 Tranent bypass, which opened on the 27th March 1986. The junction is a skewed dumbbell form, with the connecting road curving south west from the northern roundabout and crossing the dual carriageway at a skew to reach the southern roundabout. Each of these roundabouts have two arms in addition to the A1 sliproads. To the north, the A198 heads north east along the coast, with a new road providing access to the new housing development north east of the junction. Meanwhile to the south the B6371 passes through Tranent, with an unclassified road curving eastwards into the suburbs. The two roundabouts are of a similar size, and each of the four main approaches has two lanes for turning traffic.

When the junction opened, the A198 was diverted along part of the B6371 to meet the A1 here with the former eastern end of the A198 through Prestonpans renumbered as the B1361.
