The old bridge over the Beach River on Mull

Beach Bridge carries the A849 across the Beach River on the Isle of Mull. The current road bridge is a single span concrete arch clad in stone and with stone parapets. The parapets step out over the abutments to form pedestrian refuges, a feature common on many bridges built in the late 1930s by Argyll County Council. The roadway across the bridge is, however, only single track, and feels quite narrow when crossing. This bridge replaces the older bridge which still stands a short way upstream. It is believed to date from c1835 when Pennyghael Bridge was built, as there are many similarities between them. It is also a single arch, built from stone with a humped profile and a matching string course above the arch.
