Bel Royal is a complicated junction on the outskirts of St Helier. It is almost certain that in the past it was a fairly normal crossroads, but as traffic volumes increased, to the junction has had to be changed to meet the different demands of the traffic flows. Whilst still ostensibly a skewed crossroads, several movements have been prevented, except for buses which can use the 'bus gate' in the centre of the junction.

This junction design was implemented in October 1973.

The roads passing through the Bel Royal Junction are the A1, A2 and A11. The first two both approach from St Helier to the east, whilst the A1 continues westwards, and the A11 heads north west. However, as the A1 passes through the junction diagonally, it is no longer possible to continue on the route through the junction, unless travelling on a bus, forcing traffic to plan ahead and select their most appropriate route some distance further east. The junction is therefore laid out as two parallel mainlines, with left turns only permitted, except for buses which seem to have full access, although in practice travelling from the A2 to the A11 is probably impossible in the space provided.

The northern mainline is the A1 from St Helier, which becomes the A11, with the option to do a U-turn back onto the A2. The southern mainline is the A2, which continues west along the coast as the A1, again when travelling east it is possible to pass from the A1 onto the A11.
