Blackwood Roundabout is a 5-arm junction to the west of Cumbernauld where the B802 and B8048 meet. The roundabout was probably built in the 1980s or early 90s as the new town expanded on the north side of the motorway. The B8048 runs east-west through the junction, with the new route of the B802 approaching from the north, meaning that the two routes appear to multiplex eastwards to Craiglinn Roundabout. Smithstone Road to the north east and Blackwood Road to the south serve housing estates.

History

The current roundabout is built on the site of a former T junction, where the new route of the B802 formerly approached as an unclassified route from the north, and met the B8048 square on. It is likely that the roundabout was built in the 1980s or 90s to provide access to the housing developments to either side.
