The Bluebell Interchange is junction 3 of the M2. It was first built in 1963 as a trumpet-roundabout hybrid. However the junction has been rebuilt over the years. Before the early 2000s works, By 1981, the A229 was dualled on both sides of the M2. However, the bridge over the M2 wasn't fully dualled until 1992 when the A229 bypassed the junction. Its busyness didn't get any better so, as part of the widening works in the early 2000s, the old junction was swept way (literally – the trumpet overbridge was blown up) and was replaced with the current double roundabout system now used. The roundabout junction on the A229 is called Lord Lees
