Borehamwood Interchange, on the boundary between Transport for London's and National Highways's domains, is the southernmost junction where the A1 is grade-separated (Fiveways Corner has A1 South - M1 North flows grade-separated). For the first 40 years or more of its life, this junction was simply a crossroads with an unclassified road.
