History
Early in the motor-vehicle era, this junction was constructed as a single-lane circulating roundabout, presumably when the now A41 Hendon Way was opened in the mid-1920s. By the end of the 1930s, the junction had reached saturation capacity. In September 1939 the roundabout was removed1 and traffic signals commenced operating on 15 March 19402.
The junction was completely reconstructed in appoximately 1964 (exact date information would be welcome) as an elevated roundabout interchange, with both the A406 and A41 mainlines grade-separated.
