Junctions related to the A862

Rather confusingly, there appear to be two junctions known as Brockies Corner within two miles of each other between Beauly and Kiltarlity. The junction more commonly known as Brockies Corner lies on the A862 (former A9) near Meikle Phoineas. The junction takes its name from the old Brockies Inn, which used to stand a short distance to the north west, the site now covered by forestry. The corner itself lies immediately to the south of the junction, where a minor road continues south east to Balchraggan while the A862 swings round to the east. The junction itself is a simple T-junction, where the A833 turns off the A862 on its way south to Drumnadrochit and Loch Ness. Thanks to high hedges and the corner to the south, the turning is a little unsighted. In 2020, the flag sign opposite the junction was missing for a time, resulting in some people overshooting, even if they knew the road reasonably well.

As noted above, there is a second junction that is also, or alternatively referred to as Brockies Corner by some people. This lies approximately two miles south along the A833, and is the fork in front of the Brockies Lodge Hotel, where the main road into Kiltarlity village peels off to the right. The reason behind the confusion is clear, but it can occasionally cause problems when two people are thinking of different places!
