Bryants Hill Interchange was a planned junction along the earlier proposed route for the A4174 Ring Road. The eastern side of the Ring Road was originally planned to run closer in to the city and it would have crossed the A431 almost a mile further west than where it was eventually built.
The junction would have been a grade separated roundabout and two layouts are known. One has the grade separation favouring the A4174 and the other favours the A431. The most detailed plans are for the A4174 passing under the roundabout and it is expected that this would have been the chosen layout had the road been built on this alignment.
A much smaller roundabout was later built on the site of the planned junction. The northern end of Memorial Road was built on the line of the Ring Road.
