Bucksburn Roundabout marks the start of the A947 on the A96 in western Aberdeen, near the city's Airport. It is almost an equilateral triangle, with three dualled arms each providing three approach and two departure lanes. This includes the avoiding lane which passes to the south of the main junction for A96 westbound traffic. The roundabout was newly built on the site of old quarry workings in the late 1980s, and avoided the old light controlled T-junction a few hundred yards away to the east. This junction survives, but Old Meldrum Road is now unclassified, so apart from local traffic in the know, sees less turning traffic than it would have done. The site of the new roundabout is not on the old A96 alignment, but a little to the north, with the old road surviving as Inverurie Road, accessed from either end at simple T junctions with central reservation gaps.
