The C1003 is a fantastic little road which winds south from Lochinver, dodging along the coast into Coigach, one of the most scenic parts of the North West Highlands. Whether looking inland to the magnificent, shapely hills of Canisp, Suilven and Stac Pollaidh, or winding round the hidden little bays at Inverkirkaig, the scenery is always changing, and always dramatic. At the southern end, the road meets the C1047, which continues deeper into Coigach, reaching Achiltibuie, overlooking the Summer Isles. Heading east, the road runs down to the A835, and so Ullapool.
On the A835 northbound, approaching the Drumrunie junction (the road to Achiltiebuie), there is a sign which I photographed on 3 June 2012 referring to the Lochinver-Badagyle road as numbered C1050 (not C1003). Unless the Lochinver-Badagyle road has been renumbered in the meantime, it may be that the C1003 numbering in this article is mistaken or else the signpost is wrong!
