The C1021 is a lengthy hill road which starts on the A9 above Dunbeath and heads west, climbing over the hill from the valley of the Dunbeath Water to that of the Berriedale Water. It drops steeply down from the summit to find the remote settlement of Braemore, set along the banks of the river.
