The C1026 runs starts in Dornoch Square, at the east end of the A949, and runs north, along Bridge Street and Station Road. Leaving the town behind, it crosses open countryside, with side roads leading to the coastal village of Embo and its holiday parks. A sharp left turn sees the C1026 swing north west and drop down to the shore of Loch Fleet at Skelbo. The road then runs along the shore to meet the A9 just south of The Mound.
