The C1087 is one of the most famous roads in the West Highlands, as it crosses the Bealach na Ba, Pass of the Cattle from Tornapress near Kishorn to the pretty coastal village of Applecross. However, at the western end, most visitors will either turn right and follow the 'new' road round the coast to Shieldaig, or double back over the Pass. The C1087 continues, however, turning south along the coast the the harbour on Loch Toscaig.
This southern end of the route is just as scenic as the pass, albeit in a completely different way. Instead of the bleak moorland and stunning mountain vistas, the road winds along the coast past vast empty beaches, dodging behind hidden covers, and passing pretty whitewashed villages. This then is a road of two halves, and one which is well worth exploring right to the very end!
