The C1170 is a strange Y-shaped route to the west of Nairn. It starts on the A96 at tradespark and runs south west along Moss-side Road to a fork. The mainline according to the Highland Council goes left, slowly turning south and then south east to meet the B9091, and after a dogleg to the right continues to the B9090 at Broadley. However, the 'spur' is actually the longest of the three arms, and given priority at the junction, as it runs west out of Nairn as Moss-side Road, passing through Moss-side itself, to meet the C1163 at Drumdivan.
