The C117 forms a loop to the north of the B6461. It starts at Fishwick and heads north to cross the B6460 at Hutton Mains, then continues north into Hutton Village. Here, near the middle of the village, it turns right and runs east, slowly converging with the Whiteadder Water. At Paxton Mains, the route turns south, avoiding a meander in the river, and rejoining the B6461 just beyond Paxton village.
