The C1198 in Fort William is perhaps one of the shortest C roads in the country, measured out at just 33 yards. It extends along the north eastern part of Station Square, locally also known as Station Brae from the High Street to Middle Street. With the station now moved, and the old railway line re-used as the A82 Fort William Bypass, there seems little point in this short stretch of road remaining a C road in isolation. However, its continuation along Middle Street is a busy bus route which is only a U road, and therefore there would be some sense in extending the C1198 along Middle Street to the north end of the town centre.
