The C1200 runs around the east side of Fort William town centre. It starts a short distance north of the West End Roundabout, on the southern end of the High Street. Here, with the rest of the High Street pedestrianised, it continues where the C1204 left off and kinks right, climbing through Station Square onto Fassifern Road. This continues to climb, before levelling out above the town centre, and meeting Union Road, the C1202. A short distance further on, the road forks, becoming a one-way system.
To the left, Fassifern Road continues ahead and carries northbound traffic down to a TOTSO with the two-way Dudley Road. Continuing north, the C1200, now two-way once more has another TOTSO, this time with Linnhe Road, and almost immediately reaches the A82 at the Belford Road Junction. Whilst traffic is allowed to turn right in to the C1200, it can only turn left out, using the An Aird roundabout to do a U turn.
To the right, Victoria Road is one way for southbound traffic. It starts somewhat further east along the A82, beyond the Catholic church, and climbs steeply up hill, forking with Alma Road climbing higher. Victoria Road turns at the junction and runs along the contours, passing below a park, before dropping down onto Fassifern Road at the fork noted above. However, the final dozen metres or so are actually the two-way Hill Road, with Victoria Road meeting it at a TOTSO. Despite Fassifern Road to the north being one-way away from the junction, the bottom of Hill Road is still provided with give-way markings. This presumably to slow traffic for what can be an unsighted left turn, and also to allow for right turning traffic.
