The C131 runs around the eastern side of Kilwinning, starting on the A737 to the east of the town centre and heading north along Bannoch Road, then Weirston Road. This section is a semi-rural and narrow S2 with only one junction leading back in to town. After crossing the B785, the route continues (as Bannoch Road once more) as a single track lane, curving through fields to meet the B778 north of the town.
