The C144 is a very odd route. It applies to a section of Preston Road, which is named Hawthorn Road for this stretch, in Prestonpans. Running between Gardiner Road and Schaw Road, Preston Road continues west beyond Gardiner Road, first as the C117, then the C142. It must have made sense once.
