The C164 starts on the C126, Newhousemill Road just outside East Kilbride. It then heads north along Calderside Road, loosely following the river downstream, to a T junction near Basket. The road it meets used to be a through route, but was cut by the construction of what is now the A725 dual carriageway many years ago, so now it is a dead end to the left, and the whole road appears to be unclassified.
